Tahiti's "Third Gender" in Namsa Leuba's Portraits

A recent article from CNN.com tells of Tahiti’s “mahu” as seen through a current exhibition of Namsa Leuba’s photographic work. "Mahu" is a “community recognized as being outside the traditional male-female divide…mahu traditionally play key social and spiritual roles, as guardians of cultural rituals and dances, or providers of care for children and elders.” (Matthew Ponsford) Click below to view more images and read the article.
