Marlyn & Matt
New work by Marlyn Daggett & Matt Sesow
Through January 10
Marlyn Daggett maintains a studio in Santa Barbara's Funk Zone. She has a distinctive style of abstract expressionism. Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Diebenkorn, and Manuel Neri’s work uniquely influence her paintings. She combines figures, symbols, icons and text in vivid oil paintings. She repeats her imagery into many of her works: birthday cakes, brides, obscured or nude figures, letters, triangles, structures. These are sometimes inscribed or gouged to reveal traces and layered images. The results are intriguing and emotionally moving textural works.
Matt Sesow is a well-known and beloved artist in the Washington, DC area and has painted and shown work all over the world. We are showing work completed here in Santa Barbara during a three-week residency with the Squire Foundation. A largely self-taught painter, he produces multiple paintings each day. In order to keep his art accessible to all buyers, he offers works at prices ranging from $30 - $1,000.
